Alternate Image Text

An accessibility issue on web pages and sites today is the lack of alternative text for graphics and images. Audiences using screen readers, PDAs or other devices that read the text on the page for them will not receive the information supplied by these graphics and images, unless they have alternative text describing their meaning and influence on the page.

The main message we strive for on alternate image text is the purpose of the image, not necessarily the appearance of the image, further communicating the message, and its reason for being placed on the page.
