Benchmark Carbide
The Client
Benchmark Carbide, a division of Custom Carbide Corp. are a manufacturer of carbide reamers and end mills. Located in Springfield, Massachusetts, Benchmark Carbide sells their products to distributors throughout the United States and Canada. Their goal is to provide cost effective and quality products to their customers to meet their needs and provide the highest quality reamers and end mills possible. Benchmark Carbide also provides services such as tool regrinding, specials with modifications, tech support, feeds and speeds to run production more efficiently, and they offer enhancing coatings which extend the life of the cutting tools.
The Challenge
Benchmark Carbide were looking for a website that reflects their business with a professional design and allows their customers to easily order products through an online ecommerce system. The ecommerce system would require a corporate login for existing customers to access their accounts and quickly make their orders online. The site also required a Content Management System (CMS), which would allow the client to easily edit and update their company information, product line and add news and events. A site wide search function and distributor locator function were also requested in order to make finding information on the site even easier for their customers.
The Result
Tortus designed a website for Benchmark Carbide which uses the company's branding, colors and business model to reflect their services in a professional and easy-to-use fashion. Using XHTML, CSS and Ruby on Rails, Tortus created the Benchmark Carbide site to be quick in load time and have a professional, recognizable design.
Tortus created a customer log in, search function and distributor locator which are all visible on every page so these functions may be easily accessed from any area of the site. The main navigation easily allows the user to view the site's contents, contact Benchmark Carbide and ask for customer support.
The site's Content Management System (CMS) allows Benchmark Carbide to easily edit the text information and images on their site whenever they want to. The ecommerce area of the content management system (CMS) allows Benchmark Carbide to add and upload new products as well as edit current products. The News area of the content management system (CMS) makes it easy to add news articles and event updates, thus providing Benchmark Carbide with an area to update regularly, keeping them higher in search engine placements. The Careers section allows Benchmark Carbide to add available job openings as soon as they need to.
