April Newsletter

April 01, 2007 - Tortus Technologies

Last month we discussed the Gutenberg Press and the first newspaper. Perhaps we should say the former first newspaper, since as of recently you can only read it online. That's right, no more print for the first newspaper!

We received a question from a reader regarding our March newsletter:

What was the first book published on Johannes Gutenberg's movable type printing press?

It was the 42 lines per page Bible, or ‘biblia sacra' as it was titled circa 1450. One of these original Bibles is on display at Dartmouth College's Rauner Library. There are only 59 known originals left. Check it out in Hanover, New Hampshire.

The point of our March newsletter was that today most information and communication is digital and delivered through the world-wide-web-at nearly the speed of light! Why? Some obvious reasons are that most people are now online, the web is environmentally friendly, it's less expensive to distribute information online, it's easily edited and updated, and it doesn't waste valuable natural resources - such as trees and gas. Most importantly, the web delivers in real time. The newspaper you read this morning is history--today it's the web that delivers the most current news.

Next month we'll talk about the origins of the Internet and web, how and when it first became available to the general public, where it's headed, and applications that can benefit you. We will also provide ideas to improve your communication and grow your business. By the way, do you know that the Internet is the infrastructure, and the web is the part of the Internet that delivers the websites and web pages? Now you know.

If you have a question or a comment, please email us and we'll be happy to answer your questions. We might even include it in our next newsletter!

So much to say, so we'll make it quick.

The net proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Springfield Boys and Girls Club. It's only $60.00 per person and is tax deductible. By attending, you are not only making the decision to improve and grow your business, you are also demonstrating your commitment to improving the lives of children in Springfield. Call now for advanced reservations! Seating is limited to the first 500 people! Caitlin Casali, 413.788.5080, ext. 273.

Second, we are holding two executive seminars in May. We've have hosted these seminars for over 6 years for our clients and guests, they are generally held on the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of each month and are designed to provide education, not just about the web, but also on best business practices. Seating is limited, (15 people per seminar, and available on a first come first serve basis), so contact Christina Gay today to sign-up.

Finally, there's a new tortoise in our pond. He is not a snapping turtle! His name is Dave Fontaine and we're very excited he's joined the Tortus team. Dave comes to us with many successful years of business-to-business sales experience, and a proven track record of providing great service to his clients. As an Account Manager he will be covering Hampshire, Franklin, and Western Hampden Counties.
