The world's oldest newspaper publication has gone digital, and is now available online and online only!
The revolutionary Johannes Gutenberg who is credited with inventing the moveable printing press technology [c, 1450] is now passé. The moveable printing press that was arguably the most important technological advancement of the last 500 years has become....well...obsolete?
The Post och Inrikes Tidningar (PoIT) was founded in 1645 by Queen Christina of Sweden, but the world's oldest newspaper can now only be read on a computer. After 362 years of traditional print publication, the newspaper made the leap to the web. Roland Haegglund, PoIT's new editor-in-chief stated, "The change in format is of course a major departure, for some possibly a little sad, but it is also a natural step," adding, "It will definitely widen our readership. Now anyone with Internet access can read PoIT free of charge."
This is just one example of the revolutionary change that many businesses are facing since the World Wide Web began as a public property in 1991. 25 years ago the Internet was invented-- rather, made public by the U.S. government. The days of the traditional brick and mortar storefront as a standalone enterprise are numbered. Turning to the web is a great way to broaden your exposure and attract new customers. Have you made the commitment to become web savvy? We hope so.
According to a new study by BIGresearch, shoppers continue to use the web as a resource before determining which items to buy and where. This study found 92.5% of adults regularly or occasionally research products online before buying them in a store. If you don't have a web presence, prospective customers may go to your competitor.

Two quick points we want to call to your attention this month:
Due to our growth, we're looking for two new tortoises. Not the green or box type turtles or even a herpetologist-we're looking for humans. In other words, we're hiring! So if you know someone who wants to join a growing company, click here for the job descriptions.
In addition, on the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of each month, Tortus holds informative morning seminars for our clients and guests. Some of the topics covered are email marketing, search engine (Google, Yahoo!) placement, WebTrends (website activity reporting software), and many others. These 1.5-hour interactive seminars are attended by business owners, budding entrepreneurs, and executives. They're a great opportunity to network, develop new ideas, and learn more about web-based business trends.
All seminars are held in the offices of Tortus Technologies from 9:00am to 10:30am. Sign up early, because space is limited!
