Technology + Efficiency

lightning

If you’re “in the cloud” (a metaphor for the Internet), it’s much more likely that lightning could strike at anytime, from anywhere…but you still want to be in the cloud! Why?

Scientists can’t agree on exactly how lightning forms, and no one can predict when or where lightning will strike. Like success, where lightning comes from and where it touches down seem to be influenced by a combination of factors, not the least of which is chance. And like success, there are risks involved with lightning!

The most rare form of lightning is known as "positive lightning" (or "bolts from the blue") and is a cloud-to-ground lightning flash that can travel up to 25 miles away from the thunderstorm cloud it emerges from. "Bolt from the blue" lightning is therefore extremely dangerous, as it seems to come out of a clear sky, and it makes up less than five percent of all lightning. Success may seem nearly as elusive. But if you think of lightning as a form of untapped energy and opportunity, then it makes perfect sense to put yourself "in the cloud". Are you in the cloud and ready to receive these "bolts from the blue?"

In a general sense, being in the cloud means using the Internet to store and/or process information on computers somewhere else (“in the clouds”), something that Internet users do everyday, whether using e-commerce, checking their Google e-mail, or downloading music from iTunes. Read more…
