These are uncertain times in business and in life. Can you survive, adapt, or THRIVE in the next few years? The Lystrosaurus did....
Some 251.4 million years ago there was a mass extinction that wiped out 96% of all marine species, over 75% of all land-based species, and ALL of Earth's insects - the first and only time this has ever happened. Known as the Permian Extinction, it was the Earth's most severe extinction event and referred to by many scientists as "the day the Earth nearly died". In fact, today's ecosystem has not yet fully recovered - a quarter of a billion years later.
One opportunistic creature, the plant-eating, pig-sized, Lystrosaurus thrived and managed to come out of the Permian era as the most populous creature to ever roam the Earth, accounting for 95% off all vertebrates! It is assumed that the Lystrosaurus survived and dominated because it's burrowing lifestyle made it able to cope within the altered Carbon Dioxide levels in the atmosphere. Specific features of it's anatomy were also part of this adaptation: a barrel chest that accommodated large lungs, short internal nostrils that facilitated rapid breathing, and high neural spines that allowed for muscle expansion in it's chest. Because the extinction lasted over a period of millions of years, it's believed that these anatomical superpowers allowed the Lystrosaurus to morph as the air quality changed.
What made the Lystrosaurus succeed where millions of other species did not? The fragility of life, much like the vulnerability of business, is based largely on one's ability to adapt. Businesses that aren't willing or aren't capable of changing with the times may soon be gasping for air themselves. If you need to jumpstart your web presence in 2009, contact Tortus today!
