The Proof is in the Pudding! Our Tortus January 2009 newsletter, "Who's Charley?", inspired positive feedback from our readers as well as a high click through rate to our website. Thank you so much for enjoying Tortus' original content and participating in the search for Charley! Due to popular demand, this month we've got another mystery guest, however this time it may be a bit more difficult. How good are you at solving mysteries? Our new mystery man is credited with the century old proverb "the proof of the pudding is in the eating", known contemporarily as "the proof is in the pudding". In the 13th century pudding was a weekly staple at the dinner table - not a dessert - and it certainly had quite a different meaning. The puddin', or haggis as it is called by the Scottish, didn't have any sugary confections. In fact, the ingredients of the pudding are best left unsaid. We'll describe them as leftover parts, which required significant additional culinary effort to make it edible to only the most adventurous human palate. Today when we say, "the proof is in the pudding", we mean that only after we've put something to the test do we know it's true value, effectiveness, and success. Promises and appearances aside, you've got to taste the pudding for yourself - that's the real test and confirmation. During these uncertain and ambiguous economic times we recommend tasting the pudding - maybe even testing it twice. Be cautious and always look for the best return on your investments. Perhaps our man of mystery was foreshadowing our current state of credit and lending when he said: "can we have too much of a good thing?" He also penned, "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush". (Insert your own Bush humor here) Continue reading for more clues... Tortus TalkGive the mailman a break!
